Babies die so rats can see
Advanced Cell Technology Inc. has found that embryonic stem cells, when injected into the eyeballs of rats with eye problems, grew into layers of retinal cells about five to seven cells thick. The rats were able to see about twice as well as untreated rats from the same breeding line.
This technique could be adapted for use in human patients with similar degenerative vision problems.
Full details are here.
The problem is that despite their prior claims of non-destructive stem cell harvesting, the embryos from whom the lines of cells used in the experiment were derived were still freakin' destroyed. We have to draw the line in the sand when it comes to ANY research or treatments that are built upon the sacrifice of innocent, unwilling human lives.
I don't care how it gets sugar-coated: murder is still murder.
